HOUSTON Bullets were flying in a northwest Houston neighborhood when police responded to a home invasion.

Onesuspect was taken into custody after being shot by a Houston police officer. Two or three others got away.

It all started when officers were called to a homeon Black Maple Lane at Gum Grove Lane around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said an officer chased a black BMW from the scene. Eventuallythe suspectspulled over, but when the officer approached, the driver ran into him with the car.

The officer was not injured, and a brief foot chase ensued, followed by a shootout. Police believe only one of the suspects was struck by gunfire.

Our officer discharged several times. The suspect appeared to be struck once, at this point. It is a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg, said HPD spokesman Victor Senties. As I said, he was taken to Ben Taub, and he s going to survive.

Officers said the suspect was facing several charges, including attempted capital murder of a police officer.

The officer involved in the shooting was later identified as M. Henriquez. He s been with HPD since November 2007, a police spokesman said.

A description of the remaining suspects was not immediately available.
