HOUSTON -- The Houston Police Department said one of its sergeants saved a distraught woman who was threatening to jump off a downtown parking garage.

The incident began shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

According to HPD, Sergeant Steve Wick spoke with the woman as she sat on the ledge of a nine-story garage on Clay. He crouched down and listened to the woman, who said she was troubled by various family matters.

After about 45 minutes, the woman climbed down and was taken to the county s NeuroPsychiatric Center for treatment.

On its Facebook page, the police department said Wick is a 23-year veteran of HPD, and this is the second time he has successfully talked down someone threatening to commit suicide.
