HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A chase involving several suspects in a carjacking and shooting ended in a major crash, deputies said.

Houston police said it all started around 7 p.m. Tuesday when two suspects carjacked a man at gunpoint in the Heights area. Officers put out a description of the suspects, who took off in the victim s red SUV. The victim was not harmed.

About 30 minutes later, Harris County deputies responded to a Shell station on Fairbanks N. Houston near W. Little York.

Witnesses said four men in a red SUV attempted to carjack a man, who put up a fight. One of the carjackers shot the man in the eye, critically injuring him. All four men got back into the SUV that was stolen earlier and fled the scene.

A Houston police officer later spotted the suspects on Highway 290, but the men allegedly refused to pull over. They topped out around 90 mph during part of the chase.

Eventually the men, with multiple agencies behind them, fled down West Road to FM 529. They then struck the side of an 18-wheeler at Fairview.

The driver and front passenger in the stolen SUV were taken to the hospital by Life Flight. A rear passenger was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and the fourth passenger was nowhere to be found.

The truck driver was not injured.
