HOUSTON -- A pickup driver crashed into a Houston fire truck early Wednesday, yelling profanities at the firefighters before running away on foot, officials said.
The crash happened around 4:20 a.m. on the Southwest Freeway frontage road at Hillcroft.
Witnesses said the pickup driver appeared to be racing someone in a car eastbound on Hillcroft. He allegedly ran a red light and then hit the fire truck. The impact was so hard, the pickup lost a wheel and spun into the median.
Witnesses said after the crash, the pickup driver got out and yelled cuss words at the firefighters. The suspect then ran away, police said.
It s unbelievable, said witness Andre Kharna. These people risk their lives for us, I guess people, they don t care about them. Look what happened. They risk their life for us, and people don t care about them. I feel bad.
No injuries were reported.
Officials said the firefighters, who were responding to an EMScall, had a green light and were using their truck's lights and sirens.
Police said the pickup involved in the wreck was not reported stolen.
