DALLAS --A Christian group announced its plan to deliver a petition Tuesday urging the North Texas United Methodist Church not to punish pastors for officiating same-sex marriages.

In a media release, Faithful America claimed to have gathered more than 19,000 signatures urging no more church trials.

The group says UMC Bishop Michael McKee is considering a formal complaint against Rev. Bill McElvaney for officiating the wedding of two men.

Rev. McElvaney is a retired pastor at Northhaven United Methodist Church in Dallas. Northhaven has welcomed gays for years and in January, McElvaney announced that he would officiate the wedding of two long-time members.

Faithful America plans to deliver the petition to Bishop McKee on Tuesday.
