A Seattle community program trying to turn around the lives of former gang members suffered a setback over the weekend.

Thieves made off with woodworking tools the young men were using to build furniture out of wood pallets. An order for 108 chairs scheduled for delivery this summer is now at risk.

Basically anything that was able to walk out of here, did, said Bobby Martin, director of 1-1-8 Street Outreach, which refers to the zip code 98118, which covers the Rainier Valley, one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the country.

Gone were approximately $3,000 worth of saws, drills, sanders, compressors, hammers and nail guns.

It's a bummer, added Martin. We've got guys who are trying to give back and be positive. We come in Monday morning and it feels like we just can't catch a break.
