HOUSTON Bullets were flying outside a Chase bank in north Houston Monday morning.

Four armed suspects wearing masks and hoodies tried to rob an armored truck as one of the guards was loading cash into the ATM at the drive-thru.

The guard immediately drew his weapon and fired multiple shots at the getaway car. It s not clear if the suspects returned fire.

I heard a pow, pow. Next thing I know I seen a black male with a blue jeans and a white T-shirt running through the grass, said Donald Doss, a witness.

Doss was at the nearby Wal-Mart buying a bulb for his car. He saw the exchange of gunfire and called 911. While Doss was on the phone with dispatchers, he tried to follow the getaway car.

FBI officials said the suspects fired at the armored truck guards first.

The security guard returned the fire, and came running either towards Academy or West Road. Observed and played kind of close attention to this individual that was parked over here because he was running from the drive though, said Doss.

Four suspects were taken into custody just before noon near Kelly Street and Hirsch Road. Police also found a black sedan riddled with bullet holes and believed to be their getaway car.

They shouldn t be doing what they re doing. They need to get a job and go to work instead of trying to take from other people, said Doss.

The robbery happened around 10:30 a.m. at the Chase Bank in the 10300 block the North Freeway.
