SPRING, Texas A 69-year-old man was injured, but is lucky to be alive, after the plane he was flying suddenly went down in northwest Harris County Sunday afternoon.

The pilot and his passenger had just taken off around 1 p.m. when the small plane began to lose power. The pilot was trying to make an emergency landing, but the plane continued to lose altitude and flipped upside down. It crash landed in the 10600 block of Boudreaux Road, a half-mile from Hooks Airport.

The right wing is broken off of it, there is severe damage to the very, very front of the nose of the plane and the landing gear is bent, said DPS Trooper Richard Standifer.

The pilot was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital to be checked out for any brain or head injuries, but was expected to be OK.

DPS and the FAA are both investigating the crash.
