HOUSTON -- The mad dash at airports is about to begin. Houston airport officials estimate that a million and a half passengers will use Bush and Hobby airports.
The rush begins Friday and continues until the Monday after Thanksgiving. Those using Hobby will find something new at security check in.
Just in time for the holiday rush, the TSA is encouraging passengers to sign up for Pre-Check. It means you don't have to take off a lot of stuff.
Well you will receive expedited screening. That means you don't have to take off your shoes, your belt. Your laptop can stay, said Carrie Harmon, TSA Spokeswoman.
Pre-Check passengers can sign up through their airline if they are a frequent flier.
Some passengers will happily find a TSA designation Pre-Check on their boarding pass even if they have not signed up, Harmon said.
Those folks have been deemed low risk by the TSA. Airport officials also said travelers who are young and old get a break.
Children 12 and under and adults 75 and older don't have to take off their shoes or light jackets, Harmon said.
Authorities said they are trying to use more judgment about an individual's actual risk factors instead of putting everyone through the same level of scrutiny. Pre-Check has been in place at IAH Bush Airport for more than a year. Hobby Airport got the express security check in last week.
