HOUSTON Andre Johnson is the Texans star receiver, but every year at this time he is the one who is doing the giving.

Johnson, along with teammates Kareem Jackson and Jonathon Joseph and some Texans Cheerleaders, handed out Thanksgiving meals to families in need Tuesday.

A lot of these people we help are huge Texans fans, you know. They never get the chance to see you, Johnson said. So to have a pro athlete come out to your neighborhood and give back, you can interact with; I think it means a lot.

It s good to see people come out who actually support it and the families that need it, Jackson said. We are definitely glad we are able to do something like this, to put a smile on people faces this time of year.

And the people were smiling, including 75-year-old Janet Alford, who was giving Johnson a tough time.

I told Andre I came down here to help him to fight, he said, Who you gonna whip? Alford laughed. I said, Schaub. He just fell out, that tickled him.

She says she was only joking, but the event was no joke.

Just the sheer number of people who showed up in the Fifth Ward, shows how badly this outreach is needed.

Two-thousand meals were handed out, courtesy of Johnson s foundation and H.E.B.

The is the sixth year for the event.
