HOUSTON - Houston firefighters said a man and his dog escaped a house fire unharmed early Monday.

The fire was reported around 2 a.m. on Schweikhardt Street at Buck Street, according to the Houston Fire Department. When units arrived, they found heavy flames coming from a one-story home.

It took about 30 minutes to put out the fire.

HFD said a male homeowner was the one who initially reported the blaze. He said he smelled smoke when he arrived home, and he quickly grabbed his dog and went outside to call 911.
