DALLAS Of all the members of Congress who represent North Texas, only Sen. Ted Cruz would speak about the Senate plan that will avoid a national default and end a 16-day partial government shutdown.

Unfortunately, once again, it appears the Washington establishment is refusing to listen to the American people, Cruz told News 8 from his Washington D.C. office. The deal that has been cut provides no relief to the millions of Americans who are hurting because of Obamacare.

Cruz was part of the tea party-aligned lawmakers who forced the 16-day shutdown by demanding President Barack Obama gut his health care law in exchange for a bill to keep the government running. On Wednesday, Cruz blasted the Senate.

What are we doing to provide real life to the people who are hurting because of Obamacare?, Cruz asked. And unfortunately, today, the answer is the U.S. Senate and the Washington establishment is doing nothing.

Cruz and other senators agreed to not take any action to delay the bill, however. Fearful of the economic impact of a default, House Speaker John Boehner announced that his chamber would also not delay the bill s passage.

We fought the good fight and just didn t win, he said.

A spokesman for Sen. John Cornyn, Cruz s senior colleague, said his office had not seen the final bill and would not comment until it came across the senator s desk.

Rep. Michael Burgess, R Lewisville, also had not seen the actual language of the bill, nor had Rep. Marc Veasey, D Dallas, or Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D Dallas.

Other regional congressional members did not return messages requesting comment.
