HOUSTON -- A mentally handicapped woman missing for three days was reunited with her anxious family Wednesday evening in northeast Harris County.

Sandra Valdez, 49, disappeared Sunday afternoon from a nearby convenience store on East Mount Houston Road.

Surveillance cameras showed her holding hands with another regular customer, a woman locals know as Rosa.

Rosa apparently took Valdez home to hang out together. A relative of Rosa s reportedly saw media reports about the missing woman and contacted authorities.

Harris County Sheriff s deputies picked up Valdez and brought her home.

Valdez was in good spirits and said she was not hurt. Her family said she lived a normal life until she was 29 and suffered a brain aneurism.

Her parents now care for her.

She walks a lot and is well known in her Aldine neighborhood. Dozens of family and friends had searched for her along the streets and bayous.
