HOUSTON A City of Houston public works employee was in critical condition after he was struck by lightning outside his office early Friday morning.
It happened at about 10 a.m. as Jeremy Garcia and a city contractor were walking in the parking lot of the Metro North Office Park in the 1700 block of Seamist near Willowby.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud clap of thunder before they felt the office complex shake.
It was just a loud, boom, you could see it through the window, said Craig Searels, who works in the same office park.
Employees ran outside to help, and at least two people performed CPR on Garcia until paramedics arrived.
Rescuers were able to revive him and he was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
The city contractor, who was next to Garcia, was taken to the hospital for observation and is expected to be OK.
Garcia has been a construction inspector for the city since 2005.
