HOUSTON -- It's been nearly a decade since Houston hosted the Super Bowl.
NFL officials are in the Bayou City Wednesday evening checking out Reliant Park to see what Houston has to offer in their bid to host yet another Super Bowl.
It s been nine years since Houston s last Super Bowl.
Now the City plans to resubmit its bid for the game in 2017. City officials are asking for the public to help out by submitting ideas through social media sites.
We think it s gonna be a great opportunity to showcase our city and showcase our fans and our diversity; and, the fact that we are a great place to live, a great place to work, a great place for the Super Bowl and a great place to visit the Super Bowl in 2017, said Ric Campo, chairman of the Super Bowl LI bid committee.
One selling point Houston plans to push in its new bid are the giant new video screens in Reliant Stadium. They ll be the biggest in the NFL.
The NFL visitors were impressed not only by the new video screens, but also by the prospect of booking into a new hotel overlooking Discovery Green.
NFL officials visiting Wednesday seemed especially glad Reliant Stadium is relatively isolated and surrounded by parking lots because it s easier to secure. Which team hosts the Super Bowl in 2017 will come down to Houston competing against either SanFrancisco or Miami.
The 32 team owners will vote in May on whether Houston wins the bid.
