HOUSTON University of Houston junior catcher Haley Outon has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week after leading the Cougars to a 4-0 record with a .500 batting average, two grand slams and 11 RBI last week.

Both of Outon s grand slams came in the same game making her only the sixth player in NCAA history to accomplish the feat. Against the Miners on Saturday (April 13), Outon went 3-for-3 and set a school record with eight RBI in the game and two runs scored in Houston s 10-7 win.

In the first game against UTEP on Saturday, Outon went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI while helping Houston to a 17-2 victory.

The native of Pflugerville (Texas) also drew four walks over the week and ranks No. 8 in the NCAA (0.9 per game).

Outon completed the weekend in Houston s 10-1 win batting 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

This is the second Hitter of the Week award of Outon s career and first of the season.
