SEATTLE -- Amazon s Kindle Fire tablet accounted for just 2.4 percent of Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales, dwarfed by Apple s iPad, which made up more than 88 percent of tablet sales.

The Kindle Fire also trailed Barnes and Noble s Nook, which was at 3.1 percent according to Fortune.

Amazon is putting a positive face on the numbers, saying in a statement Tuesday that Black Friday and Cyber Monday were the best ever for the entire Kindle family.

Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fires have held the top 4 spots on the Amazon worldwide best sellers list since launch, and that was before the busiest shopping weekend of the year, said Dave Limp, Vice President of Amazon Kindle.
