HOUSTON The city s red-light cameras are snapping pictures, but nobody s getting tickets at least, not yet.
City officials on Wednesday said when Houston voted to have the cameras taken down last year, the officers who had been reviewing the photos were reassigned to other duties.
We have an infrastructure that we have to put in place to make sure that we monitor each and every violation, and also to make sure that the timing of the traffic signals are within state guidelines, HPD Chief Charles McClelland said. We believe that they are, but until our traffic engineers guarantee and assure me of that, we won t be actually issuing any citations to the public.
That still doesn t mean you re off the hook if you run a red light.
City officials said the photos are currently being saved, so if you run a light today, you could still get a ticket in the mail in a few weeks.
