HOUSTON The winner of a $12 million winning lottery ticket that was printed back on January 1, did not claim their prize by Monday's deadline.

The winning ticket was sold at the South Shore Shell on Deke Slayton Parkway in League City. Back in March the owners of the convenience store received their 1-percent stake, approximately $121,385. But now, 177 days into the 180 day time limit, the person with the winning ticket has not come forward.

Which is crazy to me, store customer Dara Norris told us.

No, I wouldn t wait that long, said customer Brian Jaekel. I would have been at the commission probably the next day. Well, with my lawyer.

The winning numbers for the $12 milllion jackpot back on January 1 were 15-17-43-45-47-50. Somebody has it.

But here s the even crazier part. Unclaimed tickets aren t all that uncommon. Since 1995 more than $837 million in lottery winnings have gone unclaimed.

The money goes right back to the state, specifically the Foundation School Fund which supports public education in Texas.

Almost every year we have over $50 million in unclaimed prizes at the lottery, said Grief. So if you re in the Houston area go to our Houston claims center or drive directly to Austin. Whatever you do get her by 5 o clock on Monday.

By Texas law a ticket holder forfeits any claim to a prize after 180 days.
