HOUSTON - Police said they took a driver into custody after she allegedly hit a pedestrian in southwest Houston and then tried to flee the scene.

It happened along S. Braeswood Boulevard near S. Gessner Road around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Houston police said a woman was traveling eastbound when she went over a curb in front of the Braes Hollow Apartments. Her vehicle ran through landscaping, hit a sign, and then hit a pedestrian.

Witnesses said the woman tried to leave the scene, but her car only made it to a nearby parking lot.

Police took her into custody and said she would faces charges.

The pedestrian that was hit was listed in critical condition.
