HOUSTON NASA paid tribute Thursday to the first man to walk on the moon.

A memorial service and tree dedication ceremony for Neil Armstrong was held at the Johnson Space Center.

Back in 1969 the world held its breath as the lunar module Eagle landed on the moon with Armstrong stepping outside six hours later.

His fellow Apollo 11 astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were at Thursday s ceremony.

Armstrong passed away last August.
