HOUSTON -- Houston police say a woman wanting a driving lesson was killed and her 10-year-old son was critically hurt when she wrecked an SUV in a store parking lot on the south side of town.
Police on Wednesday didn t immediately release names of the 28-year-old woman or details on the hospitalized boy.
Investigators say the woman was with a man in his vehicle Tuesday night in a Houston parking lot. Her two children were also in the SUV.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. near Almeda Mall along the Gulf Freeway.
The man and the woman s daughter stepped out, the woman jumped into the driver s seat and asked the man to teach her to drive. Police say the woman released the hand brake and stepped on the accelerator.
The SUV hit a furniture store and then a parked car. Police say the woman wasn t wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
