RICHMOND, Texas-- A large mulch fire that broke out Monday evening in Richmond continued to smolder early Tuesday.

The Richmond Fire Department was called to Highway 90 at Pitts Road around 6 p.m., officials said. They found a large mound of mulch that appeared to have combusted from the inside. High winds carried the fire to surrounding mounds.

No homes were believed to be in any danger.

It s believed the mulch will continue to smoke for the rest of the day.

Investigators were trying to determine a cause for the blaze.
