HOUSTON, Texas Nearly 2,000 people came out to the Houston Chronicle s Mega Job Fair at Reliant Center Wednesday.
Houston Chronicle holds job fair at Reliant Center
It s a fantastic event for employers and job seekers, said Jeremy Bravo of the Houston Chronicle. There are opportunities for everybody.
There were 50 potential employers represented at the fair. They were separated by category oil and gas, healthcare and general professionals.
You get a rush of emotions walking up and asking for a job, said recent Texas A&M graduate Chase Fulbright.
Fulbright is looking for a career in environmental science. His advice?
Do research before you show up, said Fulbright. You ve got to know what you are looking for before you come.
He practiced talking to recruiters and knows what sort of questions they might ask. He also researched all the companies that are hosting booths at the fair.
Fulbright s most important tip?
You ve got to dress for success, he said.
Job seekers were lined up outside the Reliant Center before the career opened.
Destiny Randolph was among the many looking for a new employer.
Everybody is trying to get a job, she said. It ain t easy.
Randoph graudated from high school two years ago and has only been able to find part-time employment. She s hoping to get something full time soon.
My dream is to become a registered nurse, said Randolph.
Job fair organizers offered to scan the resumes of potential employees into a database that participating employers can access. They also offered free career advice.
The event runs from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 .p.m. Wednesday in Hall E of Reliant Center. The Chronicle plans to host a similar career fair in April.
