GALVESTON Graduate students at Texas A&M University at Galveston are conducting a case study about the decades-long battle over development and mitigation of wetlands in Lafitte s Cove on the island s West End.

The study is part of a project for students enrolled in a wetlands management class led by Professor Thomas Linton. Rather than a semester laden with lectures and note-taking, Linton said he assigned students to untangle the permitting and management policies related to wetlands.

The Lafitte s Cove Nature Society was an ideal focus of the project because it has all the elements encompassed in the course description, Linton said.
