HOUSTON Police said slick roads may have played a factor in a fatal crash on Memorial Drive in far west Houston early Monday.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Memorial at the Beltway, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators said the driver of a red Jeep Cherokee slammed into a stoplight pole. He was not wearing a seatbelt and the airbags did not deploy, said police.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Memorial overpass and the northbound Beltway frontage road were closed for several hours while HPD investigated.
