SAN ANTONIO -- Police are crediting the quick reactions of a neighbor for saving a woman from drowning at a northwest-side apartment complex.

The woman was babysitting a 6-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon at the Windridge Apartments, 2502 Babcock Road, San Antonio police said.

Witnesses told police she was in the pool and suddenly went underwater.

A neighbor, who happened to be standing at her window, saw the woman go under water and quickly ran to the pool and jumped in, police said.

Cynthia Anthony, a medical assistant, also helped pull the woman out of the pool and started giving the woman CPR.

We kept checking her pulse, she said. I did some more compressions. Pulse. Compression. Pulse. Nothing happened.

After a few minutes, paramedics arrived and took over.

I believe she still had a slight pulse when they took off with her, Anthony said.

The woman was taken to University Hospital, where she later died.
