HOUSTON A driver who did not want to go to jail for outstanding warrants was arrested anyway after leading police on a chase, which ended in a crash, in Montrose early Wednesday, according to Houston police.

An HPD officer spotted a Mercury traveling with no headlights on in the 1300 block of Westheimer around midnight. The officer attempted to pull the car over, but the driver took off, with the officer in pursuit.

The suspect headed east on Westheimer, then turned north onto Montrose. Police said the suspect veered in front of the officer s squad car trying to cut it off, but lost control and slammed into a wooden telephone pole.

The officer then crashed into the suspect s car.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody, then transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect said he fled because of the warrants he already had. He now faces felony evading charges.
