RICHMOND, Texas A group of robbers are on the run with thousands of dollars in jewelry ripped off a 73-year-old grandmother. They attacked her inside her own home.

The crime has neighbors talking on a quiet Richmond street. Others are fuming.

Oh this is sick, said Calvin Green, a neighbor. There is no God in them.

Another neighbor agreed.

To be targeting elderly people (who) cannot defend themselves, I mean, how much lower can you get, said Liz, who did not want to give her last name because of what happened.

Liz s mother was home alone when strangers knocked on her front door Thursday night. The family runs a jewelry shop in Houston. However, they often sell valuables to friends and family at their home in Richmond.

This time, an unknown woman and two men showed up asking to purchase jewelry. They talked their way inside, and then things turned violent.

They put a gun to her head and demanded the jewelry, Liz said. They pushed her around. So she gave up the jewelry.

The suspects stole the elderly woman s 45th anniversary ring right off her finger. They also swiped a diamond studded necklace hand-made by the victim s husband. Then, the suspects locked the woman in a bathroom. They told her she would be shot if she came out. The three thieves then stole $10,000 worth of jewelry and left in a gray, older model sedan. Investigators said all three were Hispanic and spoke Spanish.

These people need to be caught, Liz said. They re only out there to do harm.

At this point, Richmond police have just one solid lead.

(The suspects) gave a name of the person that recommended they go to see her for jewelry and we know how to get in contact with that individual, said Sgt. Lowell Neinast, public information officer for Richmond Police.

It is still not clear, though, if that person even knows the thieves. That is why Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information should call the Crime Stoppers hotline 713-222-TIPS.
