HOUSTON The rape trial of former Houston Police officer Abraham Joseph has been delayed because of a family crisis for the judge.

The alleged victim was to spend her third day on the witness stand Friday. The trial began this past Tuesday.

But sources confirm that a serious crisis in the family of Judge Denise Collins has delayed the proceedings indefinitely.

Joseph was indicted for sexual assault and fired from the Houston Police Department following the January 2011 incident.

A cantina waitress accused the officer of arresting, handcuffing, and then sexually assaulting her in a central southwest Houston park.

The now ex-officer admits he had a sexual encounter with the 37-year-old woman but claims it was consensual.

There is no indication at this point when the trial will continue.
