HOUSTON A man was sentenced to 45 years in prison Wednesday in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot against a Bellaire socialite.

Nhut Nguyen was convicted of aggravated assault Tuesday afternoon for trying to shoot Yvonne Stern in 2010.

Investigators say Nguyen knocked on the door of Sterns Bellaire home and shot through the window on April 15, 2010.

She was not injured in that shooting, but less than a month later, she was shot in the stomach.

Nguyen is one of five people charged in the case. Stern s attorney husband, Jeffrey Stern, is accused of soliciting his purported mistress, Michelle Gaiser, to arrange for the murder of his wife.

Jeffrey Stern, Gaiser, James Lowery and Richard Gutierrez are all charged with solicitation of capital murder in the case.

Prosecutors said Gaiser, who worked for Jeffrey Stern, admitted to police that she provided money to have her boss wife killed.

Yvonne Stern filed for divorce in 2010, citing adultery, but the split was apparently never finalized. She accompanied her husband to his court appearance in February 2011.

The Sterns have two teenage children.
