HOUSTON A man has been arrested in the murder of 20-year-old Amber Elkins, a young mother from Humble who had been missing since last Sunday.

Police said James David Clark, 31, was charged with murder in the case and booked into the Harris County jail around 10 a.m. Elkins family said earlier this week that Clark was herboyfriend, but not the father of her children.

Investigators said Clark gave them no leads to find Elkins, but they reportedly had witnesses and enough physical evidence to point the finger at Clark.

Still, Tim Miller with Equusearch is determined to find the body.

Without a body you know a lot of people walk, said Miller. We don t want this guy to walk. We don t want him walking so we will continue this search until we find her.

Clark made his first appearance before a judge around 1 p.m.

No other information surrounding his arrest was immediately available.

Elkins father is pleading with his daughter s boyfriend.

We have a right to know, help us lay her to rest, you know, don t let this go any further, said Mike Elkins.

Her mother, Shani Kilpatrick, said she met Clark after he started dating her daughter about a month ago.

I met the guy at the gas station and when I met him I was like, what are you doing Amber? recalled Kilpatrick. She would always tell me, quit tripping Mom, I m alright.

Now, Elkins father is pleading with the man in the Harris County Jail to give them some closure.

Stop this, said Elkins. You know, I mean whatever happened, you and God can work that out. Don t let my baby lay out here like that. Let me bring my baby home.

Authorities said Elkins called her father last Sunday evening, but she didn t answer when he tried to call back an hour later, according to a friend.

Elkins mother said Amber texted her early Monday saying she needed gas money. When she tried to call Amber, a man answered her phone, hung up and turned it off.

She hadn t been heard from since. Amber had been living with her mother and, according to family, frequently checked in.

On Tuesday, deputies from the Harris County Sheriff s Department found Elkins green Chevrolet Trail Blazer behind a car wash in the 13900 block of Homestead Road near Humble. The front passenger window had been smashed in and there was a lot of blood in the car.

Homicide detectives later said it appeared Elkins was the victim of foul play.

Elkins was the mother of a 9-month-old daughter named Ava Nicole. The baby is with her father, according to Elkins mother.
