CONROE, Texas A woman suspected in a series of church thefts in Harris County is also accused of theft, identity theft and credit card abuse in Conroe, and investigators say she s on the run.
Conroe police on Wednesday said Cynthia Martinez posed as a nurse to steal from patients and coworkers in Conroe.
We re looking at someone who s adopted several different names, said Conroe Police Sergeant Joe Smart. She s moving around. She knows what she s doing.
According to investigators, she used someone else s identity to get a job at Sadler Clinic, where they say she posed as a nurse and stole credit cards and Social Security numbers.
They said they have surveillance video that shows Martinez using a stolen credit card to buy $700 worth of merchandise at a cell phone store in September.
Conroe investigators also confirmed that Martinez is the same suspect sought in the Harris County church thefts.
Harris County investigators went public with the case against Martinez earlier this week.
They said Martinez, aka Cynthia Gonzalez, was caught on video at a local church stealing from a woman s purse when the woman got up to take Communion.
Martinez is suspected in eight to 10 similar cases at five to seven area churches, investigators said.
Conroe police said investigators searched Martinez s apartment on Tuesday, but she had already abandoned her home.
In addition to the charges out of Conroe, Martinez is currently out on more than $50,000 bond stemming from two charges in Harris County and one in Galveston County. Harris County investigators are also working on a third charge.
We know what she looks like and know what she s doing, said Smart. Now we just want to get our hands on her.
Police said Martinez has ties to Houston, Galveston, Conroe and Corpus Christi.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call police.
