KILLEEN, Texas Emergency responders evacuated a neighborhood in north Killeen on Thursday morning after someone found a suspicious pipe-like device, but it turned out to be a hoax, KWTX-TV reported.

The device, a piece of pipe with wires attached, was intentionally made to look like a pipe bomb but was, in fact, inert and posed no threat, Carroll Smith, Killeen police spokeswoman told the station.

Police said a homeowner went outside around 9:30 a.m. and found the device attached to his friend s pickup.

A Fort Hood bomb squad was called to the scene shortly before 10 a.m.
