HUMBLE, Texas Police from Houston and Humble investigated a hit-and-run incident on the Eastex Freeway late Sunday.

The crash happened as a man was pushing a disabled SUV on the frontage road near the San Jacinto River. Police said an oncoming driver slammed into the back of the vehicle, severing one of the man s legs.

The offending driver fled the scene, but a witness followed him or her and relayed the license plate and vehicle description to police. Another passerby stopped and put a tourniquet on the injured man, who was then transported to a nearby hospital.

The frontage road northbound was closed while HPD and Humble police conducted their investigation.
