GRANDPRAIRIE A driver of an 18-wheeler was transported to a nearby hospital after the truck crashed on westbound Interstate 30 near MacArthur Boulevard early Wednesday morning in Grand Prairie.
Sgt. Eric Hansen, a spokesman with the Grand Prairie Police Department, said 35-year-old John Bonno lost control of the truck tractor, which was towing a 53-foot semi-trailer.
About a mile before the MacArthur Boulevard exit ... it veered onto the right shoulder of the freeway and collided with two light poles and an overhead highway sign, Hansen said in a written statement.
Emergency crews were called to the scene just after midnight and found large flames spewing from the crash scene. The truck was hauling chocolate-covered pecans, which were strewn across the interstate.
Bonno was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he's listed in stable condition, Hansen said.
All westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were temporarily closed as crews worked to extinguish the blaze and clear debris from the interstate.
Authorities said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
