HUNTSVILLE, Texas-- A Texas death row inmate is set for execution Tuesday evening for abducting a Houston couple, raping the woman and killing the man.
The U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year refused to review the case of 49-year-old Jamie McCoskey, and his attorneys had no last-day appeals in the courts to try to delay the punishment in Huntsville.
McCoskey has an extensive criminal record and was on a form of probation when authorities say he abducted 21-year-old Michael Dwyer and Dwyer s fiancee. The couple was returning to their Houston residence after shopping 22 years ago this week when McCoskey abducted them.
Dwyer was stabbed nearly two dozen times. McCoskey s distinctive 6-foot-7 height and square facial features led to his arrest.
His attorneys long held he was too mentally ill for execution.
