HOUSTON U.S. Rep. Al Green, D-Houston, is speaking out after his arrest Tuesday during a protest over immigration reform in front of the Capitol in Washington.
Green was one of eight congressmen arrested during the Rally for Immigrant Dignity and Respect. Thousands of people attended the rally.
They were warned that the demonstration, despite being peaceful, would lead to their arrests.
We want comprehensive immigration reform to be more than a slogan, we d like to see it taken up in a bill in Congress and passed by Congress, so that s what we want to do, get Congress to move because there s little time left this year to get it done, Green said.
Green and his colleagues were taken to jail, and released after paying a fine.
