HOUSTON Houstonians have a lot to think about after the first and only mayoral debate.

Six of the nine candidates in the race faced off Tuesday night.

KHOU 11 News Reporter Doug Miller was on the panel, which questioned the candidates on everything from crime to bike trails.

Most of the candidates aimed their attacks at Mayor Annise Parker. At one point, her main challenger, Ben Hall, accused her of misspending money from the drainage fee.

She promised that the drainage fee money would be used and put in a lockbox for streets and drainage. Instead when you passed it she immediately paid salaries in public works. That s dishonest, he said.

The mayor explained:

It actually does require employees to go out and patch the pot hole until we have some robotic system to make that happen, she said.

A poll conducted by KHOU and KUHF Radio last month showed Parker had a 20-point lead over Hall, but nearly half of voters were still undecided.

Meanwhile, a new Houston Chronicle poll crowned Parker the winner of the debate.

The election is Nov. 5.
