HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A Conroe man accused of stealing cars and breaking into homes is in jail after a car chase in north Harris County.
Victims said Bobby Ray Sandel, 31, also stole guns and food.
The Delarosa sisters had a refrigerator full of soda and Gatorade seemingly safe inside their garage with the women s cars.
I thought it can t be, said Evelin Delarosa. It can t be happening to us.
What happened started in the Southgate Village subdivision. Precinct 4 deputy constables said Sandel stole a car, but could not drive stick shift. So, he ditched the car.
Deputies said Sandel then broke into a second home on Mountbury Court. The victims were coming home from church and saw Sandel running away. Officers said Sandel climbed in through a window and stole a pistol and shotgun.
Moments later, Sandel ran into Gray Wagner.
(Sandel) was just jogging right up the road, shotgun in hand and walked up to my truck, Wagner said. Right before he hit the window, I yelled at him. He turned and ran. You get so sick of things happening all the time, you gotta do something, Wagner said.
Sandel wound up at the Delarosa s home. Evelin and her sister were upstairs watching television when someone opened their garage.
Once we came down, we heard the car (pull off), Delarosa said.
The suspect went inside their house, took keys, a purse, checkbook then grabbed sodas and snacks from the garage fridge and took off.
I just thought that our money was gone, Delarosa said. (Our) investment money that we worked for was gone.
However, their Camry was out of gas. So, Sandel had to stop to re-fuel. That is when a METRO police officer ran the car s plates, discovered it was stolen and moved in.
After a brief chase, Sandel bailed near this Nissan dealership. K9 s did the rest, biting the man until officers got him in handcuffs.
I was in relief, Delarosa said.
Other victims agree. They are hoping charges pending against Sandel prevent another crime spree.
