HOUSTON - Police said a man was lucky to escape serious injury after he lost control of his small sports car and crashed on Highway 6 in west Houston.

The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday near Patterson, according to the Houston Police Department.

The first firefighters on the scene found the driver trapped inside his wrecked Nissan 350Z. They freed him, and he was sent to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said it appeared the Nissan was traveling northbound on Highway 6 when it hit the outside curb, went into some bushes, and struck several trees before coming back onto the roadway. The car spun around before it finally came to a stop.

Police said the cause of the crash would be investigated.
