HOUSTON A daring robber armed with a sledge hammer tried to hit up not one, but two, gas stations in a matter of minutes, police said.

The man walked into Gibby s Food Mart located on the 3800 block of Synott around 3 p.m. Wednesday and demanded cigarettes.

The store clerk said he has seen the man before and told him to get out.

He comes back again with a big hammer, he said. So we tried to stop him, said Roy Razak.

Razak was hit in the forehead and lip. But seconds after that happened, Mike James, who owns a repair shop nearby, jumped in to save Razak.

You do what you have to do at that moment, he said. I didn t do anything anybody else wouldn t do at that moment, said James.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after that. But before the Gibby s Food Mart attempted robbery, police said the same suspect tried to rob the Phillip s 66 Gas Station located up the block.

He grabbed the beer bottle, 40 oz, he tried to come inside, but I locked the door from the inside, said Lokendra Baniya.

Everyone was OK, but very shaken up.

Police have not released the suspect s name or charges.
