MISSION BEND, Texas -- Deputies continued their search Thursday for a group of men who allegedly carjacked a man in front of his Fort Bend County home.

The suspects were later spotted in Harris County but managed to run away on foot after a brief car chase, deputies said.

The sheriff s office said the carjacking happened on Lobera Drive at Valinda Drive around 11 p.m. Wednesday. The suspects held the owner of a Dodge Charger at gunpoint as he was lifting dog food out of the trunk of his car. After the men sped away the homeowner called 911, and deputies put out an alert for the stolen car.

A short time later, a Harris County deputy spotted the sedan on Bellaire and attempted to pull it over, but the suspects took off. By the time the deputy caught up, the suspects had already ditched the car and were nowhere to be seen. Houston police K9 units were called in to assist in the search, but the men were never located.

The victim s father told KHOU 11 News there were five or six men involved in the crime.

Well, I don t know, said Jose Torres. I guess really disappointed. We ve been living here like 12 years already, and I ve never seen that happen.

Torres said his son hoped to pick up his car from police later Thursday morning.

Descriptions of the suspects were not available, but the father said the men may have actually been teenagers.

The carjacking victim was not injured.
