HOUSTON An elderly man suffered a facial fracture and stitches after police said a man beat him for taking his soda.

Kerry Thomas faces a charge of injury to an elderly individual, according to a police affidavit.

Witnesses told police that Thomas kept the soda next to his personal belongings, and when the victim took his drink, pushed him onto a bed. The suspect then mounted the victim and struck him in the face repeatedly with closed fist. The assault was stopped by one of the witnesses, the report said.

Houston Fire Department transported the victim to Doctors Hospital where he was treated for a fracture and extreme swelling under his left eye and 10 stitches in his lip, according to the affidavit.
