HOUSTON As Friday night marked the homecoming game for the Huntsville High School Hornets many students remembered a fellow student who was killed the night before.

The Walker County Sheriff Department said a 10-year-old boy shot his 15-year-old sister after they got into an argument around 9 p.m Thursday at their home in the 200 block of Duke Lane.

Many people wore purple in remembrance of the incident, which happened to coincide with Domestic Abuse Awareness month.

Becky Davis and both of her children came to the game in purple.

They were a very well known family and I feel very sorry for the family, she said. It s tough to think about.

There was a moment of silence at the outset of the game.

Some students in attendance said their hearts remained heavy.

She sits behind me in my English class and it was really weird for her not being there, said Sydney Howard.

You never want to hear anything like that, said Alexis Ortiz.

While the victim couldn t make it to homecoming, many people at the game continued to hope she could make it home.
