"You could do personal chef, in-home care, scrapbooking, photography, handyman," said Langemeier.

In her book, Langemeier tells the stories of dozens of people she has counseled who are now making hundreds, even thousands a month.

She counseled a woman here in Houston who she said was always driving the neighborhood children wherever they needed to go.? Langemeier told the woman to turn that into a side business.

"So now, what she has is a before-and-after care service.? She charges anywhere from between $6 to ?$15.? And if there's food and homework and tutoring at the end of the day, it could be as high as $25," Langemeier said.

Langemeier said the woman stands to make $150 per day.

Dr. Betsy Gelb, director of the PhD program in the marketing department of the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston ,said Langemeier's advice can work.? But she also said it's "a terrible idea" to try to create a customer out of a friend or neighbor.

To be successful, you have to be willing to tell people about your business, Langemeier said.

"You have to go out and promote yourself and anybody can do that," Langemeier said. ?"That's just talking about you and how fabulous you are."
