HOUSTON -- Three people were sent to the hospital Tuesday after an SUV rolled into a gas station and hit another vehicle and a man who was pumping gas.
It happened around 2:15 p.m. in the 3900 block of Spring Stuebner Road, according to the Harris County Sheriff s Office.
Air 11 Video showed the two cars wrecked near the gas pumps at a Stripes Gas Station.
Investigators said the SUV was going northbound on Falvel Drive, which makes a T intersection at Spring Stuebner. The driver drove thru the intersection into the Stripes Gas Station, hitting a tan SUV at pump No.1.
The head-on collision crumpled the front ends of both SUVs. A passenger in the green SUV said the driver, a 65-year-old woman, seemed to have some sort of medical episode before the wreck.
The other driver who was hit was standing outside the tan SUV filling up a gas can at the pump.
Bystanders moved quickly to keep things from getting even worse.
The hose was pulled out causing a minor fuel spill, could have a fire, some quick action and some quick thinking, both vehicles were running at the time, got the fuel shut off, said Lt. David Mayes with the Precinct 4 Constable's Office.
Bystanders also turned off both SUVs, he said.
Life Flight took the driver of the tan SUV, a 78-year-old man, to the hospital. He was listed in serious condition.
The other driver and her passenger were taken by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands.
The gas station was closed as crews worked to clear the scene.
