HOUSTON -- A Houston Police Department officer was taken to the hospital to get checked out after he was struck by a passing motorist.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday outside Minute Maid Park.

Police said a pickup driver struck the officer, who was directing traffic following an Astros game. The driver stopped a couple blocks away and was briefly detained.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the incident, but the driver was issued a ticket for the incident.

The officer was said to be in stable condition.
