SAN ANTONIO -- Firefighters and paramedics saved the day for one local girl and her Sweet 16 court after their limousine was T-boned by a train just east of downtown San Antonio.
Pictures sent in from a KENS 5 viewer showed a Hummer limousine flipped over on its side with severe damage on the driver's side.
Firefighters at the scene said the limousine's tires had got stuck on the train tracks and the driver couldn't budge the vehicle. As the train approached, the safety arms came down and pinned the Hummer, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
Some of the teens described how they were trampling over each other to get out of the vehicle just before the train struck. Parents told KENS 5 no one inside the limousine was injured, including the driver.
The wreck happened just before 6 p.m. on Saturday, at the corner of Hoefgen Avenue and Essex Street.
After all was said and done, the birthday girl, Mariah Garza, and her court wereeventually takento the party by EMS and fire trucks -- and, thankfully, no where else.
Everybody was freaking out, so everybody was opening the door, pushing each other, rolling off the limo, it was just horrible and people were having panic attacks, I mean it's my birthday so it was kind of unexpected, Garza said.
Brian Rogers,a friend of Garza's, who was also in the limo, said the ordeal felt surreal.
I thought everybody was joking around because it seemed like some type of movie thing and then we all just noticed the warning signal hit the limo and we all jumped out the limo, Rogers said.
