HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A construction worker killed his co-worker during a fight at a Harris County motel and then informed their boss the victim would not be coming to work the next day, deputies said Wednesday.

The murder was reported shortly after midnight at The Palace Inn along East Sam Houston Parkway south of Wallisville Road.

According to the Harris County Sheriff s Office, deputies responded to a stabbing. When they arrived, they spotted a man running through the parking lot. They quickly set up a search perimeter and located the man in a grassy area not far from the motel.

Investigators determined the man was allegedly involved in a fatal stabbing in one of the rooms at the motel. He and a co-worker were in town with a large crew from El Paso and were sharing a room. The men apparently got into a fight, and the man stabbed his co-worker.

After the stabbing, the suspect allegedly went to the foreman s room and informed him the victim wouldn t be coming to work tomorrow.

He just went in, told him that he wasn t coming to work, said Sgt. Ben Bell. When he asked why, he told him that he had been killed.

The foreman called 911 as the suspect fled the scene, deputies said.

The suspect was bitten by a police dog during the search, and he was taken to the hospital to get treated, deputies said. He was then taken into custody for questioning.

Other co-workers told investigators the two had been arguing for days, but it wasn t clear what the dispute was about.
